Stress Management is a subject that comes up quite a lot during the Holidays. In our last newsletter we discussed a number of strategies to help reduce the effects of stress on our bodies.
One cause of stress that we sometimes overlook is our past. We hold on to memories of things that others have said or done to us, and we hold on to mistakes that we ourselves have made.
Forgiving is not easy, but it is very good for you for many reasons. Here are a few:
· keep blood pressure in a normal range
· improve the performance of the immune system
· reduction in depression
· more productive sleep
· stress reduction by avoiding negative emotions
· promoting constructive behavior
Forgiveness can be a challenge for several reasons. Sometimes forgiveness can be confused with condoning what someone has done to us. We need to remember that forgiveness has nothing to do with the “other guy”. It is all about us.
Even more difficult can be forgiving ourselves. It is actually easier to forgive others than to forgive ourselves. We are all human and we all make human mistakes.
Giving ourselves and others unconditional love and the benefits of doubt can help us mentally, spiritually, and physically. The art of forgiveness takes practice, and the gift of forgiveness lasts forever.
