Spring is finally near – a time when our thoughts turn to ….. how am I going to look in my bathing suit this summer?
Yes, Spring is the time of year when we start thinking about those extra pounds we put on during the winter, and those cold days when we just couldn’t bring ourselves to get to the gym.We all want to look and feel our best, especially coming into the summer, and we are going to discuss ways to make that happen in this 3-part series.

PART 1 – SPRING CLEANING we discussed toxicity and how difficult it is for a toxic body to lose weight, which is why it is so important to first detoxify and cleanse so the body is able to shed those extra pounds. https://kumahealthandwellness.com/look-and-feel-fantastic-in-2014-part-1/In PART 2 – SHED THE POUNDS we discussed the three ways to lose weight.

Is there anything as frustrating as working so hard to lose weight, and then seeing all those pounds creep back onto your body week after week until you end up right back where you started?Keeping the pounds off is probably the most difficult part of weight loss since it involves a total lifestyle shift – we need to change the eating habits that we have spent a lifetime developing.

Success will depend on a number of factors, but the single most important key is: COMMITMENT

May I suggest you sit quietly and think seriously about WHY you wanted to lose the weight in the first place.  Was it to look good in a swim suit? Did you want to feel healthier and have more energy?  Did you want to be able to play with your children or grandchildren?  Or have you developed a weight related health issue?

Once you find your WHY, write it down and put it in a conspicuous place – maybe the mirror in your bathroom or in the kitchen.  It is important that you always keep your WHY in mind, because everyday will require you to make decisions on your food choices and you want to make those decisions based on what is best for your life and your family in the long term, and not succumb to short term pleasure.

Any of you who have read our blog or been to our workshops has probably heard us discuss the three solutions to every health issue. They are – 1) what you put into your body, 2) what you do with your body, and 3) who you get to help you with your body. What You Put Into Your Body

In Part 2 we found that everyone loses weight differently  – we are all different people and we all lose weight differently.  Some of us are comfortable with a high protein diet, some with a high complex carb diet, and others with a reduced calorie diet. Well,  the best way to lose weight is also the best way to keep that weight off.  This means that you want to make your diet consistent with your weight loss method.  For example, if you lost your weight using a high complex carb diet and you are comfortable with that, you want to continue to limit your meat intake, and keep eating primarily fruits and vegetables.

There are three things that we all should limit or eliminate from our diet regardless of our weight loss method:

1. No more Soda.  And if you must have a soda, drink regular – not diet.  And if you must drink a regular soda, find one with real sugar, not high-fructose corn syrup.

2. No trans-fat or hydrogenated oils.  Read the labels and stay away from these – they are toxic and addicting.

3. No MSGs.  The labels for foods containing MSGs can be misleading because it comes in many names, so watch out for any strange sounding spices.  Also, MSGs are in a lot of fast foods so that is another good reason to stay away from them.

What You Do With Your Body

Light exercise will not only help burn calories, but will also keep toxicity levels lower.  You do not need to go to the gym and lift weights everyday – unless of course that is what you enjoy doing.  Find something fun like walking the dog, yoga classes, biking or swimming.  The important thing is to just keep moving.

Who You Get to Help You With Your Body

We all need help. It is important that you find a health care practitioner who understands your goals and has the expertise and knowledge to help you meet them. A nutritional counselor can help design a diet that works for you, a personal trainer can help you develop an effective exercise program, a massage therapist can relieve your aches and pains so that you can remain active, a Naprapath will align your body and relieve undetected nerve damage.

When we look at the WHY we want to lose weight and keep it off, we want to remember what our lives will be like if we do not.  When we are overweight, we have less energy, we feel physically and mentally sluggish, we develop low self-esteem, and often, the extra weight interferes with our enjoyment of our lives and our families.

Obesity has become an epidemic in this country, and it leads to many serious weight related diseases; most notably, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. All these diseases can lead to a lifetime of pharmaceuticals, pain, fatigue, and a limited lifestyle.

At Kuma Health and Wellness, we are dedicated to helping as many people as possible regain and maintain their health, naturally.  If there is anything we can ever do for you, any questions  you may have, or any problems you want to discuss, please feel free to call or stop by our office.
