Wellness Wednesdays – Natural Solutions to Stress

We want to thank everyone who came to Kuma last night for Jim’s presentation, “Natural Solutions to Stress Related Issues”.  I have included a summary of the discussion:

Our lives are full of stress and we know that 80% of all chronic illnesses are caused by stress.  Stress does not only attack us mentally, but it also attacks us physically – specifically stress attacks our adrenal glands.  The adrenal glands control the secretion of over 50 hormones, and those hormones control over 100 body functions.  The most common symptoms of stress related issues are headaches, fatigue, allergies,  sleep disorders, neck and back pain, and digestive issues.

There are natural ways to help us support our adrenal glands and reduce the effects of stress on our bodies.  First we want to watch what we put into our bodies.  Substances that overly stimulate the adrenal glands include  caffeine, tobacco and sugar so we want to limit the intake of these stimulants.  W want to increase the intake of certain vitamins such as Vitamin c and B Complex.

Second, we want to exercise to work out our stress.  It is not necessary to go to the gym or lift weights.  In fact a 10 minute walk will raise your endorphin levels for up to 2 hours!

And last, we all need help.  At Kuma we use Massage, Acupuncture, and Naprapathy to help our patients and clients with their stress related issues.
